The Second European congress of OFS and YouFra

Live a life worthy of the calling you have received!” (Ephesians 4,1)

In 2012 the OFS and YouFra had their first joint European congress in French town of Lisieux, famous for Saint Thérèse of the Child Jesus. It was a kind of historic moment because it was the first time to have a meeting like this between the OFS and YouFra, although YouFra have had its five congresses up to then. One of the things decided on this Congress was to continue the same path together and to organize the Second European OFS-YouFra congress in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2015. Thus the National fraternity of Bosnia and Herzegovina started to organize this congress which will be held 17-23 August 2015 in Mostar.

The continuation of the Fraternal and Pastoral Visits (VFP) to the National Council of the OFS in Malawi was conducted by Jenny Harrington OFS, Presidency Councillor, and Fr. Amando Trujillo Cano TOR, General Assistant, respectively, from February 17 to 21, 2015, in Lilongwe. In addition to several meetings they had with the Provisional National Council, visitors also had meetings with various groups such as the Poor Clares, the Major Superiors of the First Order, representatives of the Regional Councils, the Spiritual Assistants, the Episcopal Conference of Malawi, and the Apostolic Nuncio. On the evening of Friday 20, at the chapel of the Poor Clares, the Eucharist was presided by Fr. Amando, during which Jenny Harrington confirmed the members of the Provisional National Council for one year.

"In their family they should cultivate the Franciscan spirit of peace, fidelity, and respect for life, striving to make of it a sign of a world already renewed in Christ. By living the grace of matrimony, husbands and wives in particular should bear witness in the world to the love of Christ for his Church.

They should joyfully accompany their children on their human and spiritual journey by providing a simple and open Christian education and being attentive to the vocation of each child" (Rule OFS Article 17).

Dear brothers and sisters:

Peace and good.

When we are attentive to our families and their needs, when we understand their difficulties and hopes, we strengthen the Church’s witness and proclamation of the Gospel. Particularly by supporting marital love and fidelity, we help the faithful to live their vocation freely and joyfully, and we open new generations to the life of Christ and his Church. (Address of Pope Francis to Bishops of the Episcopal Conference of Sri Lanka on their “Ad limina Visit, May 23, 2014).

During the Presidency meeting of March 2015, it was agreed that to fulfill one of the decisions of the General Chapter of November 2014, and to be in communion with the Church at this time, a commission for the "Family" be formed.

"The king was so filled with the spirit of charity that although many tried to dissuade him because of the danger, he would willingly go to visit the sick even if (he was) suffering in agony. He would offer them words of consolation and much needed advice." (Guillaume de Chartres, De Vita et de miraculis)

"May God, in his great generosity, grant us, to you and to me, that after this mortal life, we will be able to unite with Him for eternal life to see Him, love Him and praise Him forever." (Teachings of St. Louis to his son Philip)

In this short article we want to re-read the Apostolic Exhortation Evangelii Gaudium by Pope Francis, from no. 217 up to n. 258, pointing out two important elements of the social dimension of evangelization: peace, as a fruit of the Spirit,[1] and the dialogue, as a path for evangelization.

As you have probably read in the newspapers or seen on television news, last week the Chilean region of Atacama was struck by terrible flooding which caused much death and destruction.
