To all my sisters and brothers in the Secular Franciscan Order, all over the world

"... filled day by day with the comfort and grace of the Holy Spirit"

My dear Sisters and Brothers!
May the Lord give you his peace!

"Rejoice in the Lord always. I shall say it again: rejoice!" On the Feast of Pentecost let us listen to St. Paul; rejoice and rediscover, that we are filled, day by day, with the comfort and grace of the Holy Spirit, as also Saint Francis has experienced it. God always provides for us the best we can use in order to love our neighbours in a deeper manner, to accomplish our duties better, to walk on the way of our secular franciscan vocation, as salt of the Earth and light of the World.

“As you sent me into the world, so I sent them into the world.” (Jn 17:18)

Heavenly Father,

light in us that fire that drove St. Francis of Assisi to proclaim the Gospel to all, so that we can witness your love by our life and words, through our entire life, so that we may want to live in a poor and humble manner, according to the example of our Seraphic father St. Francis.

In March a tropical cyclone hit the island of Madagascar destroying lots of houses and leaving many homeless people and destroying infrastructure. Recently we have received a request from the OFS National Minister of Madagascar, Gérard Cécilien Raboanary, if we can help them in some way. He told us that the northern part of Madagascar was the most affected. Several members of the Secular Franciscans have housing problems at present.

Lucien Botovasoa was born in Vohipeno (Madagascar) in 1908, the first of nine brothers and sisters. He started studying at the public school, then he attended the Fathers (Priests) School when it was opened. He was then baptized and received First Communion when he was 14 years old. He completed his studies at the St. Giuseppe (Joseph) di Fianaratsoa School and became an instructor at the Fathers’ School.

Season of creation – September 1st – October 4th

The Season of Creation, running yearly between September 1 and October 4, is that time of the year when Christians are invited to pray and care for creation. September 1 was proclaimed as a day of prayer for creation (World Day of Prayer for Creation, or Creation Day) by Ecumenical Patriarch Dimitrios I for the Orthodox in 1989, and was embraced by the other major Christian European churches in 2001 and by Pope Francis for the Roman Catholic Church in 2015. And it has happened that in recent years many Christian churches have started celebrating the “Season of Creation” (also known as Creation Time) between that date and October 4, which is the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi (author of the Canticle of the Creatures in the 13th century) that some Western traditions observe. It is meant to give flexibility to celebrate prayer services for creation in alternative dates throughout the month, while engaging in different actions to care for creation throughout the season.
